Sensei means teacher in Japanese.
The Sensei of the Southampton Samurai Judo Club is Dave Dyer.
Dave has studied Judo for 34 years and has acquired a 4th DAN Black Belt. His commitment and dedication to Judo has made him a respected member of the BJC.
Dave is a qualified International Referee and a registered British Judo Council Coach.
He has obtained FPJ2 (Fundamentals Principles of Judo 2) coaching award Shodoshudai Ni.
Dave is fully insured as an instructor and also a First Aider.
Daniel has studied Judo at Samurai since 1999. He is currently a Contest 1st DAN Black Belt. He also has FPJ1 and FPJ2 coaching awards (Fundamentals Principles of Judo). He is fully insured and a First Aider. Daniel is also Club Timekeeper and Recorder referee. He is keen to assist Sensei Dyer with the Primary training sessions and often takes the Junior session as 'Sensei' assisted by Lauren Coles. Daniel has also taken the Senior sessions unassisted.
Lauren has studied judo for just over 8 years after joining Samurai in 2003. In this time she has progressed to 1st Kyu (Brown Belt) and also earned a place in the BJC National Squad and competed at International level. She also has both FPJ1 and FPJ2 coaching awards (Fundamentals Principles of Judo) and is also a qualified club referee. Lauren is also on hand to offer her valuable expertise to all our members when assisting Sensei or one of our other top instructors.
Jo joined Samurai in 1991, she is 3rd Dan, FPJ1 & 2. Club Coach and Shodoshi Dia Itchi, also a Tournament Administrator, holds a Child Protection Awareness Certificate, and is fully insured and a First Aider.
